We’re famous for our pale and gold coloured beers at Oakham Ales but we brew some brilliant black beers.
Black Hole Porter takes a traditional style and gives it a modern, refreshingly hoppy twist. First brewed in 1996, our brewing team now age Black Hole Porter in casks to produce the exceptional beer that we know today.

Cask at Standing Order, Derby. Pours a very dark brown with a small cream head. Roasted malts and caramel in the nose. It’s a bit watery in the mouth, but the variety of flavours makes up for that. Liquorice, coffee, dark fruits and Dandelion and Burdock can call be detected (not necessarily in that order !), All on a vanilla base. Finish is dry and ashy. Pretty good all round – avoids the usual Oakham hop obsession.

Cask at the Royal Standard, Woodburn Common. A dark plum coloured pour with a ring of cream head; aroma of licorice, leather and tar; oily texture and a dry fruity taste of plums, figs and dates; then fig and licorice to finish. A nice autumnal pint - summer must be over.
