A chestnut bronze-coloured bitter with a smooth mouthfeel and freshness; a classic style strong bitter brewed as a Dark Star version of Festive, a former great Sussex beer from King & Barnes.

Half pint from cask at Angleterre in Helsinki, thanks to Matti for the treat. Copper coloured head, lack of head. Modest aroma of chocolate malts, while the sweet dark malts are mixed with resinous hops in the flavour profile. Slightly roasted. The ending has got a dry bitter touch. Drinks well (Helsinki pub crawl, 06.02.2011).

(Cask at Angleterre, Helsinki) Poured deep amber and clear. Head was medium sized, long lasting and white. Aroma contained malts and caramell. Palate was almost full bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramell, nuts, hops, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, sweet and bitter. A bit boring.

Fresh at the brewery in Sussex. A copper coloured beer with an aroma of chocolate and fruit. Caramel, fruit, chocolate and ginger in the taste. Reminded me of Fullers ESB. Easy drinking ale from Dark Star, very nice indeed.

Cask at Akkurat. Pours brown red orange with a light tan head. The aroma is true to the style of malt and some hops. Tastes malty, rosted and some nuts. Bigger body than most ESBs
