A chestnut bronze-coloured bitter with a smooth mouthfeel and freshness; a classic style strong bitter brewed as a Dark Star version of Festive, a former great Sussex beer from King & Barnes.

Cask at the Albion, Winchester. Golden brown with a tight cream head; fruity, spiced plum, aroma; fruity flavour too - reminding me of Old Fashioned Spangles, and with a sweet and satisfyingly full grainy body; the finish is slightly sour and very moreish. Good stuff.

07/04/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (cask). Spillata a pompa. Corpo medio-basso, liscia e beverina. Ottima session beer.

Cask, Marble Arch Inn, Manchester. Murky mahogany colour with a thin off white head. Aroma of yeast, sweet malts, orange, spice, booze. Sweetish flavour with malts, fruit and yeast notes. Some muffled hop bitterness towards the finish. Ok but pretty underwhelming overall.

Cask @ O’Hara’s Freehouse
Aroma has caramel, toffee and bready malt. Flavour is rather bready with some toffee and grainy malt. Nothing disturbing, nothing special. Works fine as a session ale.

Cask at CP&K. It pours chestnut brown with a decent foamy white head and low carbonation. The nose is caramel, nut, wood and cardboard. The taste is roasted malt, nut, wood, cardboard and hay, with a bitter-dry finish. Simple, but very drinkable stuff.

A pint in the Old Dispensary E1. Clear darkish amber beer - good head that is a slightly off white. Light semi dry palate. Very good balance - toffee malt with a fresh cut of hoppy orange that is just bitter enough. Unremarkable but done well and highly drinkable!
