Pours fairly crystal clear deep orange amber/light copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of raisin, plum, cherry, berry, pear, apple, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, herbal, wood, grass, and pepper; with lighter notes of toffee, nuttiness, roast, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Some very noticeable diacetyl in the aromas that diminished as it warmed. Not too overpowering. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, cherry, berry, pear, apple, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, herbal, wood, grass, and pepper; with lighter notes of toffee, nuttiness, roast, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of raisin, plum, cherry, berry, pear, apple, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, herbal, wood, grass, pepper, light toffee/nuttiness/roast, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, fairly sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 6%. Overall this is a very good English strong ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, with the modestly bitter/drying finish. A bit on the buttery side, but not offensive. Really well made for the style, right on par for expectations. Perfectly balanced English yeast, malts, and hops. Most of this brewery's beers I reviewed were quite a bit old, this one was really fresh and definitely far better than the old ones. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt and earth. Taste is caramel, sweet malts, earth, grass, metallic notes, minimal fruitiness. Bland. Wouldn't purchase again.

White frothy head stayed well on a finely carbonated golden head. Malt & spice aroma Medium smooth body. Spicy, bitter, stewed fruit & a long tangy on the back. Decent Festive Beer

Treated as a winter warmer and poured into a mug, the appearance was a ruddy golden burnt orange almost light brown color with a decent transparency about it. Head dissipated immediately leaving a nicely speckled lace claiming the glass.
The aroma takes on a big sweet malty stickiness. Some mineral water, and grassy sweet fuggles hops come across. I swear that’s got to be fuggles hops in it.
The flavor yields to the malty sweetness and lets in the fuggles hops smooth and clean soapiness. Biscuity sweet with a touch of toffee and light milk chocolate. Malty rich toffee aftertaste. Sticky wet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Mild carbonation yields to a very smooth and practically sticky body.
Overall, well, as a winter warmer, it’s quite lacking in that department as far as some winter spices that could \"beef\" it up to a better quality of the style. Ratebeer says English Strong ale, so if some nuttiness or even some earthiness could help maybe it could be a better beer all around, but I can’t give this high marks.

Bottle at Amaranten. Pours amber with a white head. Drinkable nice ale, malty and lots of oranges.

500 ml bottle sampled in 2009. Dark golden body with a big, dense off-white head. Light aroma of caramel malt with a hint of citric fruit. Flavor is light malty with fruit and moderate bitterness. Medium body and moderate in aftertaste. Pretty straight forward.

a flavor of oats and fruit and some spice. Amber in color with a very pretty lasting creamy head.
