Tap at Renegade - dark purplish red - nose is pretty much all bourbon and barrel - vanilla, whiskey, damp oak, toasted coconut - if you love bourbon, which I do, you’ll probably really dig the nose, despite the fact that you can’t really smell any of the original beer’s characteristics - low carbonation in the mouth - surprisingly tart - the oak takes over in the flavor as well, but initially the character is more tannic and wine-like - the middle brings the rich maltiness you expect from the style, as well as a touch of earthy peat and notes of cocoa - vanilla and bourbon late, along with a touch of spice - a touch of acidity in the finish cuts its sweetness - I don’t always dig bourbon barrel beers these days, but when I do, they taste like this.
