Sample at the taproom. Brownish-black color with a medium khaki head that diminishes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, coffee and spice. Full-bodied with flavors of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and mild curry spices. The finish is roasty with a charred malt and curry aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Spiced imperial stouts can be awesome (Chocolate Yeti, anyone?), but are easy to mess up - thankfully, this one nails it - slick, silky texture - sweet cream, espresso, and chocolate - some raisin and anise - curry arrives late and actually adds a mild sweetness at first, along with nutmeg and other character - I’m not that versed in Ethiopian food, but there is a distinct garam masala character to this- then the heat arrives - just a moderate amount, adding just enough heat to be warming without overpowering the palate and washing out the other flavors - light savory notes on the tail end - love it.
