At first, I assumed this was the same as the small batch wee heavy they did a while back, since that had cocoa nibs as well - however, I was informed that this brew was "similar, but different" - I am assuming, since this was a larger batch, that they made some changes to the recipe, resulting in a different brew - not sure if it was changed enough, so perhaps these will be combine eventually - this one is certainly a bit darker and significantly heftier than the small batch scotch ale I had - the nose is quite peaty, much more than the other - a lot of earthy peat and sweet caramel notes - fairly full in the mouth - sweet, but not sticky - loads of peat and fairly strong cocoa notes - quite a bit of spicy character and a moderate alcohol burn - earthy and potent, with certain similarities to scotch - lingering spice and peat in the finish - fairly similar to the other wee heavy they made, but much more assertive - I like this one more.
