A satisfying, full-flavoured black brew with a good balance of malt, roast and fruit. Bittersweet flavours carry through to a dry finish.

Cask at Pembury Tavern. It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, sweet liquorice, charcoal, condensed milk and Scottish Tablet. The taste is smooth, roasted malt, cocoa, coffee grinds, earth, dark caramel, custard and toast with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Very smooth and drinkable stout.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 25/11/2011. Jet black with a slight tan head. Chocolate and roasted malt aroma with a touch of sweet fruit. Flavour had much more chocolate, a hint of fudge, grains and a dryish finish. Very good.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Opaque dark brown beer. Light tan suddy head. Light semi dry palate. Nice rich dark chocolate malt balanced by sweet orange fruit hop. Finishes semi dry. Really nice balance of chocolatey malt and mild fruity hop. Well done!

Cask at the Pembury Tavern. Pours opaque brown with a thin, beige head. Good aroma, with the vanilla notes just rising above the roasted malt foundation. Flavor is quite nice. Medium sweetness with semi-sharp, mineral malts, hints of ripe, almost tart fruits, vanilla, faint roast and very delicate hops. Light in body with fine carbonation. The finish seems to be sweeter than the initial taste, with all the preceding characteristics in addition to some maple syrup, along with some light warmth and hints of booze. Overall not outstanding, but very good.
