Poured into an English pint glass, the appearance was a fairly dark burnt orange color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that died off in a slow way. Light lace.
The aroma had some candied fruits, subtle earthy hops, light tobacco, and some sweet herbal qualities. Caramel malts somewhat seem far underneath.
The flavor yields to the malts, somewhat bready to roasty and then those candied fruits with the herbal and earthiness flowing in for some balance. Lingering robust malty aftertaste with a crisp malty finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Herbal and earthy tones seem to play against the carbonation for a good normal feel for a Scottish ale.
Overall, without the peatiness, I’d say this was still nice all around. I could have again for me, definitely one for the colder months.

Cask at the brewpub - Great Barrington. Pours amber-gold with a creamy tan head. Dried berries in the nose with bready malts and suggestions of leaves. Medium sweet flavor with simple, bready malts, mild creamy toffee, faint cocoa. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with more bready malts, some caramel, ripe fruits. Quite tasty.
