Pulled from Port wine and bourbon barrels (Barton 1792 and Buffalo Trace) filled over the last two years, the blended average for Copestone 2022 was 17 months in oak. While there are certain constants we think define Copestone, each vintage carries its own unique qualities - this year we’re struck by the drinkability and clean finish for the relative heft and barrel intensity of the beer.

2022 vintage at Armsby Abbey, 1/1/24. Clear dark maroon. Light tan head sits at thin cover. Really nice English feel to it with big raisin-plum-prune from malt and yeast, backed by a fun helping of vinous port and gentle oak. No booze, doesn't feel too sugary. Soft, rich, fruity and malty with excellent barrel character adding dryness on the finish. There's a strong vanilla note from somewhere that is absolutely killer. Deft balance of sweet and dry, malty and attenuated. And that fruit and vanilla lingering is amazing. Great barrel character, good acidity. Not too heavy on the raisin-prune. Just a pinch of syrupiness up front before drying out nicely. Lovely spiciness in the final dh from the barrel.
