Vintage 2005. Cellared properly since I bought the 500ml flip-top bottle at Barley Wine, Copenhagen in mid-May 09. Shinning, reddish-amber body under plain, white head that left fragile lacework behind. Inviting aroma with plenty of dried fruits. Smooth vinous taste of spicy hops, bready malts, figs and nuts. Ripe fruits to a lingering aftertaste. Strong, but quite hidden alcohol. Lovely rounded mouth feeling. Warming, slow sipper. More than an hour of joy on a dark and rainy Saturday night (Tromsø, 26.09.2009).

(Bottle, vintage 2006, Ölbaren, Copenhagen, 14 Feb 2009) Amber to ruby colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with citrus, caramel and orange marmalade. Malty, fruity taste with notes of orange peel and caramel. Some spicy, citrussy hops. Slightly vinous and rather sweet. Fairly well balanced for the abv. Nice one.

2006 bottle. Pours clear amber with a mid-sized, firm head. Sweet, fruity aroma with notes of salty liquorice, marzipan and alcohol. Thick mouth-feel. Sweet and fruity with loads of alcohol flavour; too much alcohol flavour. Feels a bit lager-ish. A Malt Liquor-style Barley Wine.

2005 Vintage. Hazy deep amber with tiny off white head. Sweet fruity aroma with caramel and malty notes. Sweet and rather vinious flavor with caramel, overripe fruits and discrete hoppy notes.

aroma is like a (cheap) danish gold beer, quite full and heavy though. not bad. Looks are also close to the typical danish cheap strong beer, except perhaps a little darker. small foam. looks rather boring. Taste is similar to cheap strong beer, alc not hidden. tastes like very strong alc. Taste got better as it warmed up though. Palate is average, but nothing special. overall not one i’m coming back to. Too close to discount strong beer imo.

50 cL bottle. Pours brown, murky with alcing off-white head. Wineous and dried fruity aroma. Flavour is sweet caramel, dried fruit and slight woody. Solid alcohol smoothness. Ends with a lingering bitterness and woody note. Light woody to nutty note.

Bøgelverschlußflasche: A bit unclear, amber coloured, smaller, a bit lacy off-white head, fat barley in the sweet-malty nose, accompanied by alcohol; full bodied, solid sweet flavour, some traces of hops in the sweet-grainy finish. Well crafted brew, well rounded......

2013-01-31, vintage 2006, 6 years old, 7-5-6-2-14=34
Cloudy dark amber color with orange/red reflex; small head, with low retention. Malt aroma, while a whiff of Parmigiano Reggiano marks the age. The body is thinner than before, with higher alcohol perception; caramel flavor, very low sweetness, very low bitterness, and some signs of age, mainly the cheesy ones, not much oxidization.
They promised improvememnts for 10 years: it didn’t happen ;-)
2009-04-10, vintage 2006, at Carlsens Kvarter, 7-5-7-3-14=36
Hazy amber color; big head; a thin layer is persistent. Malt and caramel aroma, quite mature, with traces of yeast. It has a strong caramel flavor, and chocolate; the body is still structured but thinning, and the bitterness still high; maybe in one more year it will be more balanced; anyway, already now the alcohol can be perceived. The final is well bitter, with mildly roasted malt too. Interesting but not supreme.
2008-05-18, vintage 2006, at Ølfestival Århus, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Hazy copper color. Caramel aroma, quite mature. Good body, a bit oily, dominated by the caramel, and some alcohol warmth. A bit one dimensional, but correctly brewed.
2007-02-08, vintage 2005, 6-4-7-3-13=33
Hazy amber color; thin head. The aroma is malty, like a Barley Wine. The flavor is malty as well, but less sweet than expected, with a strange combination in the end of bitterness and too much alcohol that reminds me of Strong Lagers. Powerful malty brew, but simplistic.
