Brown with a frothy head. Aroma of candy and mixed grains. Taste is mildly sweet up front, bittersweet at the back with a dollop of caramel. Medium-bodied, moderate carbonation. Simple, there’s not a lot going on.

Bottle from A Hoppy Place, Windsor. Aroma is sweet, almonds, berries, toffee, with coffee hints. Opaque dark chestnut brown. Bubbly beige head soon thins out bar a few islands and a ring around the rim. Light bitter. Coffee. Tangy sour edge. Develops an underlying sickly sweetness but the coffee bitterness reasserts itself into the finish. Ends up with a plasticky/acetone effect. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Average carbonation. Astringent finish. Alright but doesn't seem.to work very well in term of balance and flavour. And unlike the description on the label it's barely rich and not full-bodied.

Bottle from Tesco, Dumfries. Chestnut in hue with a cream-coloured head and a light fizz. Wood and chocolate with port and raisins. The alcohol is well hidden. There's sweetness there, but the finish is dry and mildly bitter. Very enjoyable and much better than I expected from a pasteurised supermarket brew.
