A powerful, full-bodied Imperial IPA-style beer. Brewed for ALDI's Maternus project by Cervezas Arriaca, an independent Spanish craft microbrewery. This style recalls the intensely hoppy beers that emerged in the 18th century to withstand long sea voyages.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear brown with a distinct ruby red tint and a creamy, beige head. Quite good looking, but very surprising for an IPA! Toffee aroma with some faint, greasy hops. Rich, malty body. Biscuit and crystal malts and even a slight roastiness - or it might just be the bitterness of the finishing hops. A very different take on a DIPA, not even sure if it could be termed old school. 140825

Bottle from Aldi. Deep brick red with a tan head. Malt driven with a healthy amount of toasted and chewy caramel notes. Citrus, pine and fruity hop notes. Full bodied. This skews to the malty side of the DIPA category. For what it is, it’s actually kind of impressive.

Marrón rojizo, opaca casi, de abundante espuma beige, cremosa. Bonita. Buena.
