Winter Warmer is 100% malt brew, with Maris Otter and Crystal malt combining Fuggle and Golding hops. Young’s unique cane sugar mix is added to the copper during the brewing process.
A welcome sight on the bar during the winter months, Winter Warmer is the ideal beer to cosy up with in front of a pub fire on a cold winter’s night.

Cask at the Guildford arms. Pours clear amber, nose is toffee, grassy, taste is sweet, grassy, dry toffee.

On tap at the Guildford Arms. Appearance - a lovely red to toffee colour nice head. Beautiful. Nose - biscuits and spice. Some herby or pine notes too but subtle. Taste - a more intense version of the nose. Palate - medium bodied with a crunchy texture and a fairly elegant finish. Overall - I like this but would classify as an ESB.

Cask in spread eagle Camden . aroma is nutty twigs and wood. Light nutmeg and wood in the flavour. Medium body light carb.

cask@Pied Bull, Streatham, London (drunk in a comfy leather armchair next to a roaring open fire) - Pours a dark brown colour with a persistent frothy head and lacing. Dark roasted toasty malts, nutty, rich dark fruits, christmas cake like, some spice, slight caramel/toffee/choc, good mouthfeel. Almost back to as good as I remembered back in the early 90s (and certainly much better than over the last 5 years I have tried it)

Cask @ Ship, Bromham Road, Bedford. Dark brown, disappointingly thin. Aroma of malt, plus some sweet fruit and spice notes. Hint of chocolate. Sweet warming taste with a very slight bitterness in the finish. One-dimensional but overall a decent experience.

Another beer I hadn’t seen for a while: half-pint, hand-pulled in The Kings Arms, Oxford on 23rd Nov 13. Pours a clear mid-amber with a beige like foam on top. Toasted malt and hedgerow berry aroma. Semi-sweet taste with subtle caramel maltiness, those berries again and hints of spices. Not as rich or heavy as I remember it ’back in the day’ when it was brewed in London. Glad we found each other again, even if we don’t really remember each other too well.

Cask at Richard I - Greenwich, London. Pours clear amber with a fine, beige froth. Light toast and berry aroma. Medium sweet flavor with mellow bready malts, berries and other fruits, fructose sugars. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Good condition. Moderately sweet finish with light caramel, further berry character, fruitcake, lightly toasted bread. Very tasty, easy-drinking stuff. Mild dry, leafy bitterness, too. Solid.

Ruby coloured ale with a nice creamy head. Plenty of winter fruitiness in both aroma and taste, somewhat dry in the latter aspect.

Served on cask at the Rose and Thistle, Frimley Green into a UK pint glass (Jan ’12). The colour was a dark rich, brown, darker than mid brown and a decent half finger of white head that remained pretty much throughout the first 2/3rds of the drinking experience. In terms of smell, fruits of the dark and dried variety stand out, along with spices and a little malt aroma. Tastewise, definately dominated by the fruits and malts, quite a complex mix of different malts going on, also caramel/toffee/sugars, a toasted flavour blending in with the spices present (maybe a pinch of nutmeg/cinnamon?). A fairly full bodied beer for 5% with a certain amount of chewiness, I took my time over this one! A Bitter/soured aftertaste.
