Bottle from Asahiya, 7% - Coedo’s sweet potato beer. It pours a rich caramel brown with a thick fluffy off-white head. The aroma is sweet, I am getting a sugary canned peach or fruit, fruity with an underlying malt profile of light toffee. The medium body is smooth with a light syrupy quality to it. The taste is sweet, maple sugar, light toffee/molasses, a bit of booziness & heat. It really reminds me of a decent Belgian dubbel. Pretty good but I was expecting more sweet potato, I guess I might be getting a bit of that in the body...

This beer pours a slightly hazy reddish-amber color with a medium foamy white head that dissipates slowly. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, toasted malt and fruit. Medium-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, pumpkin and grain. The finish is sweet with a bready malt and spice aftertaste. Average overall.

33cl bottle pours a clear, copper amber with some creamy, white head. Nose of carrots, root veg, malt, parsnip, sweet potato, caramel. Flavor is sweet, malt, candy sugar, caramel, roasted parsnip. Full, sweet finish.

Shared from 330ml bottle. Poured a red, ruby-amber color with a clear, wispy white head. This one was light malts, some sweet toast notes, caramel. Okay.

Pours coppery brown with a small head.Sweet potato is quite prominent in the aroma, but also some sweet malt. very interesting.Lots of sweet potato as a flavour too. A hit of booze ruins things a little though. Again, quite sweet.Body feels a bit flat, need a lot more carbonation to cut the sweetness.

Bottle. Beautiful ruby amber color. Aroma of subtle cinnamon toast. Taste is sweet fruitcake and brown bread.

I've come back to this after six years and had a very different response this time round. No idea why - something wrong with it, I suspect. Have left my original review below. You can really get a good sense of the sweet potato in the aroma. In fact, it's very dry almost like a sweet potato chip. There's also bread, cherry and a little lemon. On tasting, there's not sufficient hops to offset the sweetness of the sweet potato, but it's still a very interesting amber ale. --- 2012 Review: Within seconds the head is gone and there’s just a fierce carbonation that makes me wonder whether i’ve cracked open a Coke. I must admit that I was almost scared to drink it on that basis. The nose is pretty full-on, dominated by deep caramel, raisin, bread and something I can only describe as cough medicine - I guess that’s just the overwhelming alcohol. The taste is pretty consistent with the aroma and I can’t help that feel like I’m swigging Benadryl.
