Due to its authenticity, Earthmonk received as little sugar as possible during bottle conditioning in order to preserve all original aromas and flavours. This beer comes with little carbonation and a mini head. Is best served at cellar temperature and poured generously, meaning from a hight of approximately 15 to 20 CM, in an upright standing tulip glass. A big bubbled head will quickly make place for the Earthmonk coming alive!

Pours dark brown/black with zero head. Sour aroma with some woodiness and vanilla. Complex flavors of oak, vanilla and sourness. The taste is very good but the beer is totally flat. I think this took alot away from the enjoyment of this beer. Good, but disappointing. I was hoping for more. I have another bottle that I will re-rate soon. I hope it will be better.

A dark reddish brown ale with a big bubbled off white head. A wonderful complex aroma of blackberries, a good burgundy wine, lactic acid and a good berry jam. Wow! In mouth, a complex Flemish sour with light vinegar, cherries, light candy sugar. An intense beer, probably in my top 10. Enjoyed in bottle at Kulminator, Nov. 2006, with Joris and Carlo.

33CL bottle. Pours with a no head, and a deep, murky ebony brown body. Coats the side of the glass. Aroma of tartness, peaches (ripe), alcohol, caramel, burbon and sour tanins. Wine like acidity in the aroma. Taste is sour, but at the same time sweet with burboun/oak notes and a slightly metallic finish. Light to no carbonation. Interisting sour.

Bottle from Liquid Solutions in Portland, OR. Slightly murky, reddish brown color with a few bubbles for head. Aroma is darkly vinous. Wood, dark cherry and stuff. Near medium body with very mild carbonation. Flavor is medium sour with lots of oak. The oak tends to dominate the cherry and fruit. It’s very kind, and not at all harshly sour. Funk is not in it. Delightful. Arguably the best sour I have had. Which may not be saying much. Finish tends to blend all the stuff together. Tart and pleasant may sum this up. Makes me think of a very well aged zinfandel - ?

Powerful balsamic aroma. Crisp sourness, with more balsamic in the flavor. Sour cherry and cranberry flavors. Brown beer, and no carbonation. Great palate, full mouthfull. At the top of its style.

Brown with a small off-white head. Fruity aroma with pineapple, and some malt, leather and brown sugar. Very sour flavour, mostly vinegar, with a cherry note.

Bottle (RBESG 08): Hazy, brownish-reddish coloured, small, but persistent beige head; dark malt, aceto balsamico, caramel and wood in the nose; strong sour-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; long and longer balsamico-like finish, warming, too. Very impressive stuff..............

(6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Dark brown color. Aroma is very oaky with some berries and cherries notes and some caramelly maltiness. Sweet-sour flavor with oak, big dark fruitiness, caramel and some biscuits. Medium to full body with an oily mouthfeel. Good stuff but not my favorite.

Bottle courtesy of Fonefan: Poured a deep cloudy red color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of oak with some sour cherries and some cloves and some very subtle light black chocolate notes. Taste is also a mix between some black chocolate covered black cherry with some clearly identifiable oak with a sour finish. A lot more complex then most traditional Flemish sours out there. This is definitely a beer I would like to try more often in order to try and decipher all of the characteristics.

Bottled(330ml). -RBESG2008, Grand Tasting.
Dark brown coloured, small tan head, sourish acidic nose. Very sour fruity vinous taste. Also sour cherries and acidic grapes. Overall wickedly sour and excellent brew.
