Due to its authenticity, Earthmonk received as little sugar as possible during bottle conditioning in order to preserve all original aromas and flavours. This beer comes with little carbonation and a mini head. Is best served at cellar temperature and poured generously, meaning from a hight of approximately 15 to 20 CM, in an upright standing tulip glass. A big bubbled head will quickly make place for the Earthmonk coming alive!

Rating vintage 2005(?) Best Before Date: 2007
Dark brown to black colour, beige head. Aroma of caramel, balsamico, cherry, fruits, light red wine touches. Sour flavour, balsamico and citrus. Quite full body for a sour. Sour finish, balsamico, touch of raisin, some citrus and acetic acid. I quite love this one, definitely warranted a re-rate!

Deep dark red colour, slight beige head. Aroma of raisins, wood, light tart, caramel, apple skin, overripe fruit, madeira and port. Quite sour flavour, tart, wood, some red fruits, malts, overripe fruit and light soy sauce. Light acidic finish with dried fruits.
I expected a bit more from it, and for sure will try to open another vintage soon to compare.
(From 33cL bottle @ RBBSG II, Wilrijk. Not sure who brought this, but thanks nonetheless!)

Refrigerated bottle porued into a tulip. Pours dark brown with almost no head. Very little lacing, light body, and balsamic vinegar/soy aroma. Taste is balsamic vinegar, some tart, some soy sauce, hint of licorice, and a little fig peaking out. Complex and different brew, but not one for me.

i did NOT like this at al. i’m not so much into sours, and this is a kind of sour wich i would even place underneath the normal sours in my ranking. but you know, fans for everything everywhere. i didn’t ever tasted anything like this. the element that desturbed me in this beer is, i cant put it in other words, the smell of kindergarden glue ( you know, the see-trough tubes ). nobody realy agrees, maybe i’m wrong, but this is what i think of. and the taste is just overwhelming and totaly like it smells. i’ve tried, people. i realy tried.. but i couldnt finish my glass.. luckely other people in the bar did like this one so i could at least give it away to make someone happy. months later i drank a rodenbach ( it should have happened someday, you know ) in what i tasted this element as well, but way, WAY less than the earthmonk. i think i can just conclude i’m not so much into this type of beer. but if you aren i’m sure you’l love this one. in the meantime, i’m having regrets i’ve bought a vintage 2008 75 cl bottle of this one. anywone searching this? any fans of sours? its up for trade as we speak...

Bottle from Etre Gourmet 2011. Dark brown with a minimal head. This was an interesting and complex beer. A lot of vinegar both in the aroma and taste. Also licorice, wood, leather, earth and cherries.

75 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Pikkulintu. BBE 07/2011, rated on 4.12.2010
Aroma has lots of earthy notes, some sour cherries and balsamico vinegar. Flavour is rather sour with oaky notes, some sour cherries and balsamico. Finishes sour and dry. Usually I am not a friend of these ’oud bruin’ ales but this was good. 9+3+8+4+16 = 4.0
75 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Pikkulintu. BBE 07/2011
More vinegar and less sweetness. Not that good anymore, harsh score estimate: 3.4.
33 cl bottle vintage 2008 @ home, BBE 27.04.2016
Sweet and sour, this one is not vinegar but red wine. Also some woody tones. Score estimate: 3.7.

330 ml bottle at Bier Central. Pours a very dep red brown with very little head. Sour aroma with vinous wood barrel notes. Definite sour Flemish Red flavors with a bit of stout flavors mixed in. Very enjoyable.

bit of vinegar, sourness not pungent, reminiscent of red wine a bit with an acidic edge.
