Fucking Hell (Keg at Woolshed, 20150116) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had grass and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, sweetness, mildly grain, some malts and medium bitterness. Aftertaste was grainy and bitter. A below average helles, too sweet and stll harsh.

Draught @ Woolshed, Helsinki
Aroma is a bit unusual with sweet buttery tones and some grain. Flavour has sweet butter, grainy malt and grassy hops. Grassy tones get stronger towards the end of the glass. Clean, easy to drink but perhaps a bit light and straightforward. Shouldn’t this be helles instead of pale lager? At least this tastes like one.

Beside the marketing gag with the small austrian town Fucking, the beer is brewed in eastern germany. Mid golden, small head. Mid grainy, mid bitterness. Nearly more like a Pilsener than a Helles. But all in all average.

Bottle. Pours clear golden with stable white head. Clear aroma of malt and yeast, with some notes of hops. Bitter, hoppy flavour with a good deal of estery notes and malty touches. Rough and cardboardlike aftertaste with some bitter hints. Drinkable and not bad for the style but rather watery and not exceedingly enjoyable.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 1B). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 14:39S0622. AROMA: clean grainy malt aroma with faint hop notes. APPEARANCE: gold color and translucent. thin white head with low retention. TASTE: dry flavor with medium-low bitterness. no hop flavours and some faint grain swetness. dry finish. clean lager profile. PALATE: light body with low carbonation. OVERALL: a thirst quenching german pale lager with a more dry profile than usual. not so bad.
