Donner Party Porter is one tasty porter that will get you through the harshest winter. This complex pint’s flavor profile includes hints of oat cakes, molasses, smooth rich dark chocolate, mocha, and espresso. That, my friends, is what we call a robust, almost historical porter, and why we say “your friends never tasted so good!”

Sampled at Churchkey's FiftyFifty event, pours a murky brown with some white head. Nose is all chocolate and tootsie roll, malt, bread. Flavor has the bread and the sweetness, but a clear meatiness too. Finishes dry.

Smoke and some dark chocolate. Pretty dry but not super well executed. Pours black with decent head and lacing. Coffee. My first non-barrel aged Fiftyfifty beer and makes me think they don't know how to get the base right, let alone the 1,000 bottle gimmick. Tap at Churchkey.

Nice porter, with delicious veins of cocoa, caramel, coffee, and dark fruits finished off by char, pumpernickel bread, and a nice, dry fade. Soft, medium-bodied texture makes for easy drinking, while the pour comes out a lovely dark brown with a fluffy beige head and layers upon layers of lace. Excellent beer.

Tap at the brewpub. Pour is very dark brown/black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate and dark malt. Flavor is chocolate with some transient sweetness, and maybe a hint of coffee. Not to mention dark malt. Finishes a little chocolate bitter. Nice porter.

Backlog from last summer. Pours with a deep brown hued body and a large tan head. Aromas are great. Saw dust, chalky, nutty, cocoa on the nose. Dark fruits, iodine, rich chocolate. Flavors are raisiny, malty, toasty, nutty, leather, light melanoidin. Medium low bitterness. Very dry finish despite the malt. Fuller carbonation.

Tap at Capones Black Friday Bash, Norristown PA, 29/11/13. Light black with a moderate tan swirl. Nose is cocoa, roast malt, light metallic tinge, vanilla, faint lick’o’coffee. Taste comprises light roast, sweet tones, mineral bite, brown sugars, dark fruit rip, marzipan, earthy cocoa. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sweet and drying conclusion. Decent enough porter.
