This year’s release of Spice-Bomb is aged in 8–12-year-old American Oak bourbon barrels and is a blend of 9, 12, and 24-month old barrel-aged Winter Ale. Spice-Bomb achieves distinct oak, cacao, leather, toffee, and dark coffee notes from its extended barrel aging and barrel blending. This special edition adds winter spices to complement the gentle embrace of bourbon barrel-aged warmth. Each barrel contributes a different note, and combining each barrel to create a coherent tone is a distinct art and true pleasure. Please do enjoy this unique barrel-aged ale today but know that Spice-Bomb will age gracefully for at least another five years. Don’t Be Afraid To Be Abominable.

Poured from 375mL bottle. Very dark brown with small beige head. Lots of allspice, nutmeg, has an almost feint citrus note, hint of background oak. Unbalanced, yet tasty.

Dark brown. The aroma is mace, vanilla and cassia...like a musty Chinatown herbal shop. This has some molasses, cinnamon/cassia, mace, a bit of cardamom...just very intense spice over top of a sticky syrup malt base. This is odd, and way over the top on the spices. I like it, but holy shit that's a lot of spice.

375mL bottle, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma is full of nutmeg, allspice and cinnamon upfront, oak, and some dark sugars. Flavour is very spicy, with nutmeg and allspice galore upfront, which swamps everything else. The barrels are buried and the body is neutered by the spices. I was never a fan of Spice Wars, and now I’m not a fan of Spice Bomb.

375mL bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Tons of nutmeg, allspice, and cinnamon, some roasted malt, on the nose. Flavour has plenty of bourbon barrel and a ton of nutmeg and allspice. Good malty base. Pretty unbalanced, the spices and bourbon are clashing. Age would probably do this beer well.
