Our imperial Rauchbier marks the beginning of the holidays in Europe, particularly the Germanic areas, where on Krampusnacht (Krampus Night) parades, music, and food celebrate the holiday. Krampus is a goat-like monster who punishes naughty children with branches and sticks, and sometimes eats them or takes them to hell. This holiday falls the night before St. Nicholas day. St. Nicholas the bearer of gifts for the good children.
This smoked lager was brewed with a blend of Blue Ox Malt out of Maine featuring their maple smoked malt for a pleasant campfire and toasted marshmallow aroma and flavor. Amber in color and boasting aromas of toffee, wood smoke, and a hint of spice. Smooth rich body carries a blend of smoke, cherry, and toffee. The lingering finish is velvet and soft.

Brewery draught, 3/23/25.
Clear rusted-copper-amber. Small, butter-beige head.
Deep, dry wood smoke. Rich and dominant but allowing biscuity malts, pepper and all sorts of crazy smoke variations. Clean. Malt feels sparse but not unsupportive.
Ashy, smokey, very charred and dry with a smokey acidity. Round fruitiness keeps the acid/dryness from running away with things, but it's a bit dicey. That said, it's dry, has a wonderful smoked complexity and some good minerality. Earthy, peppery, very dry finish.
