Poesiat & Kater’s Van Vollenhoven Extra Stout is based on a recipe from the original Van Vollenhoven brewery that existed in Amsterdam during the 18th century. It has a rich full malt body with roasted flavor notes. This was the top selling beer in the Netherlands in the second half of the 19th century and was shipped all over the world.

Poesiat & Kater's Van Vollenhoven Extra Stout is our flagship beer and we are proud to be making it once again for beer lovers today.

Bottle from Kisjes Slijterijen, Meppel. "Brewed in 2016" so brewed at Troost, I suppose. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, some salted liquorice, caramel, Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and medium roasty bitter. Body is medium. Very drinkable Stout with lots of roast, some chocolate and mild liquorice. Proper!

Tap at Noord-Hollands bierfestival ’17, Alkmaar: Opaque black colored brew with an dry bitter taste, hints of roasted malts, coffee and some chocolate. Third incarnation of this beer what I think, its seems that this brand always find an way to make an come back.

Can. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy light tan head. Clear aroma of malt and cake, with notes of yeast and mild touches of dried fruit. Bitter, roasty flavour with notes of yeast, and touches of lactose and spice. Bitter, roasty and spicy aftertaste with estery hints. Decent.
