Deep dark brown coloured body with a light hazy glow and a thinnish, just off-white head that's around two centimetres tall, but stays afloat for a really long time. Aroma of crisp peaty malt with some malted barley notes, a dash of nuts and earth with a light bitterness from the malt with a hint of sweetness as well. Medium-bodied; Crisp yeast and bready notes at first with a dash of apples and stone fruit sweetness, but a lot of malt and earthy, nutty notes dominate here with some light hop notes as well. Aftertaste shows some light peat and smoked malt notes, but the majority of the flavours are earthy, nutty and slightly rustic, with some good sweetness and a touch of yeast pungency at the end. Overall, a very nice and flavourful beer that hits the mark in terms of flavour profile and balance, especially for a lager! Good to sample for the style, especially in this part of the country! I sampled this sixteen ounce pint, sampled on draught from Sickie's [burger bar] in Rapid City, South Dakota on 25-June-2020 for US$5,50 at the restaurant.
