Deep dark brown coloured body with a super large, slowish dying tan head that starts out close to ten centimetres (yes 10!) tall that fades to just a small, 'normal' one to two centimetre tall tan head after a few minutes. Aroma of light malt, bread, yeast, a lot of earth and nuts with some vinifera and even concord grapes and a dash of dry grain towards the end. Super light-bodied; Very pungent soured and funky yeast notes up front that show something gone quite a bit wrong, with a light of fruits, citrus, malt, nuts and a lot of the not-so-good yeast and bread notes with the funky, not-intentionally-done soured and bretty characteristics that almost pucker the mouth. Aftertaste shows some dry fruit and funky tart flavours with a little dose of wheat and more of the bread and yeast flavours that anything else with some light grape and vinegar notes as well. Overall, a pretty clear example of how NOT to make a dunkels with a lot of funky, tart and odd yeast/wheat notes that don't show enough earthiness, nuttiness or complexityt throughout - this tastes more like a wild ale (gone wrong) instead of any wheat-based german styled beer, let alone a dunkles. Obviously worth passing on, unless you want to see something unintentionally funky. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 22-September-2018 for US$1,99 sampled some one and a half years later at home in Washington on 05-March-2020.
