Old school meets new school in this fresh approach to the classic IPA. At 50 IBU’s and 6.7% ABV, Breaking Bud features the restrained bitterness and alcohol of a classic IPA with newer tropical fruit hop flavors and aromas of Mosaic. Also in the hop mix are Simcoe and CTZ, creating layers of mango, passion fruit, pine and dank. A malt bill with a pinch of crystal malt and a hefty dose of flaked wheat keeps the beer crisp while adding flavor complexity. Cheers to the past, present and future!

Bottle [from Secret Summer Santa 2015] @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear golden color, medium sized off-white head. Aroma is malts, hops, decently fruity. Taste malts, hops, fruit hops, decently bitter, lightly grapefruit. Medium body and carbonation. Lovely beer again from Knee Deep!

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/16/2015. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around on the glass. Aromas of pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, light honey, lightly toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance if bright tropical/citrusy hops and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, light honey, lightly toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange peel, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of bright tropical/citrusy hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and fairly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an awesome IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of bright tropical/citrusy hops and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

22oz bomber pours with a clear gold body that supports a thin white head. The aroma offers up inviting tangelo, grapefruit and spicy onion dankness. In the background are thin bubbles of sweet malts. The taste begins with a blend of tangelo, clementine and grapefruit citrus hoppiness as well as a pleasing layer of spicy dank hop notes. The hops come across as hop extract but that does not interfere with the hoppy enjoyment going on right now. Solid stuff that ends dry and a little thin.

Pours gold into a shaker. Bright white head with medium retention recedes leaving spider lacing to coat surface. Tropical fruit and resin aromas. Dry and sweet with caramel and mango upfront turning to passionfruit before the lasting resin and dark caramel finish.

Sample at Appalachian Vintner. Clear golden color with a medium thin white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of piney hops, tropical fruit and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of resiny hops, grapefruit and roast malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a lingering fruity hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

On tap at Abv. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A big sweet fruity citrus nose. Very light flavor. Citrus, toast, lemons. Smooth. Light tea. Big orange peel.

Bottle. Pours clear orange, puffy and sticky off-white medium head, long lasting and nice lacing. Aroma is pretty damn potty to me - power of suggestion, I guess. A herbal, onion, melon thing going on as well, plus some armpit. Flavor is more fruity, melon, mango, onion, still plenty of herbal pot. Quite dry and light plus bitter. Medium body, clean finish.

Bomber from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours a lightly coppery gold with a foamy white head. Aroma is dank, crazy Mosaic fruits, arguably pine. It is so hoppy, the malt seems missing. Arguably full bodied. It’s dank, with tropical fruits almost disguised by resin. I’m sure the hops will build to a burn with time. It finishes dry, dank, tropically fruity, and tho the malt is clearly there, it won’t stand up for itself. Holding up the hop must occupy its capabilities. Wow.
