Crew Change is a robust porter brewed in collaboration with our friends from Union Craft Brewing in Baltimore, Maryland.

Beginning with a roasted, nutty malt base, Crew Change was brewed and lightly dry hopped with experimental hop variety HBC 472, which provides woody notes of bourbon and cedar. Crew Change is a dry, light-bodied robust porter with a touch of bitterness that finishes clean.

Collab day notes: pairs well with best friends, pizza, and bottle rockets. #getout

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice thinnish, one to two centimetre tall light brown head that fades pretty quickly, all atop the 80 per cent opaque dark brown glow of a body with some oily bits noticeable. Aroma of nuts, vanilla, earth, grain and some caramelised sugars here, all with a hint of cherries and pitted fruits, but not much, as the roasted malts and slight cacao notes come through towards the end of the nose - strong and nice throughout. Medium-bodied; Robust and very rich chocolate and roasted malt flavours come through at first with a big bitterness noticeable along with some grainy and oaty qualities, but the cherries and light fruity qualities and even some lactose does come through at the end. Aftertaste shows some enjoyable bitterness, seemingly from hops, and it may be, but the roasted malts and especially oaty quality makes this seem rich and robust with a lot of pungency and earthy, rustic qualities, while not being hard to drink or deep. Overall, a pretty nice beer throughout and perhaps better than I expected, although from these two breweries (on either side of me), things should be expected to be pretty good - this is a great porter and showing some nice complexities while being easy-ish drinking. I sampled this sixteen ounce can, purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria (Potomac Yard), Virginia on 37-June-2022 for US$3,79 sampled on the last day of Summer and the first day of Autumn in Washington on 22-September-2022 here at my house, somewhere between Union & Ardent!
