Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8
Crystal clear deep copper and bronze coloured body with a bright amber glow and a very thin, pretty ugly one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, a lot of sugars from pineapple, caster sugar and toffee, even with some breadiness around, but also some resinous hops. Medium-bodied; Nice balance between a relatively light (especially for the style and alcohol content) maltiness (this must have been the 'low gluten' thing) with a good dose of resinous and very piney hop notes that dry out the palate before some of the sugars come in at the end and try to rescue the profile, but the balance is struck fairly cleanly with some nice flavours and richness, while still being easy-drinking enough, considering the potency here. Aftertaste is rich, deep and showing some nice flavours, while providing real bitterness from the hops, without sugars being cloying and perhaps the most impressive part is how the alcohol is still hidden well - this shows at around 8 or at most 9 % alcohol, so the ABV is nicely shaded. Overall, a surprisingly nice beer with a great profile and well-struck balance with bitterness and sugars, but not overly so. The alcohol (a lot of course), is hidden well, so be careful, but this one was great to sample fresh, especially after being purchased up in Alaska and brought back the entire length of the country! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from La Bodega in Anchorage, Alaska on 05-October-2021 for US$5,75 sampled at my house here in Washington on 24-October-2021.
