We brew beers for all and we share cheers with all. As such, we have joined numerous brewers around the world to participate in the Black is Beautiful initiative. Launched by our friends at Weathered Souls Brewing Co., Black is Beautiful is a collaborative effort amongst the brewing community and its customers, in an attempt to bring awareness to the injustices that many people of color face daily and to show that the brewing community is an inclusive place for everyone.

All participating breweries are asked to donate proceeds from their beer release to local organizations that support equality and inclusion. Proceeds from sales of our version of this beer will be donated to Media Mentors, a non-profit organization providing Tidewater Virginia area youth with tools, education, and platforms to create and own their narratives. The teaching programs encourage creativity, build confidence, and inspire entrepreneurship in our youth, such as partnering with local businesses and organizations to produce authentic, grass roots media.

For our version of Black is Beautiful, VBC will take the original open source Imperial Stout recipe developed by Weathered Souls, and blend Waypost Imperial Stout vintages aged for 12 months in Apple Brandy barrels and Willett Bourbon barrels to showcase flavors coming together from across the country.

The only overseas version of this I’ve gotten to try... Virginia Beer Black is Beautiful 10% Imperial Stout blended with BA Imperial Stout Deep inky black with a deep rusty tan head and rich savory umami and soy aroma followed by oats and cacao. Medium bodied with boozy heat but a lot of syrupy dark chocolate, Toasted oats, mild oak and cacao nibs. Aside from the heat it is super smooth. Nice on an icy cold winter day.
