In honor of the recently completed Johana Tap Takeover I figured I should get at least one of their beers while I’m here: Johana R2 Masaru 5% Matte gold with a filmy bright white foamy top and a subdued dank funky aroma... probably served too cold but it has a weird edge to how it smells. Fairly full bodied but super dry. The flavor has a toasty burnt biscuit thing to it which is very strange in an IPA. This tastes earthy and off, not really tasty. It has a bizarre mushroom funk, I can’t pick out anything terribly IPA about it... what a let down, most beers I’ve had lately from Johana have been trending up so this is very disappointing.
