This beer is the hop-tastic liquid equivalent of a relaxing vacation at a 3.5 star tropical resort. The fresh fruit platter from the breakfast buffet. A cooling dip in the lagoon. Paddle up to the swim-up bar for cocktails in the sun. Soooooo good!

Tap at the brewery. Poured a hazy light amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt, tropical fruit and alcohol. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a crisp, big yeast, fruity, floral alcoholic bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Way too alcoholic for me and the alcohol is dominating the beer and not in a good way. Could not finish the schooner. Served a little too cool but improved as it got warmer.

From a 650ml bottle on 30/5/2017. Pours a murky dark golden with a big foamy head. The nose is strong and distinct with lots of ripe tropical fruit. Flavour wise, there’s caramel, mango, lychee, peach, mandarin and pineapple. The hops are big and resin packed, with a spicy, almost peppery rye finish. The palate is syrupy and the carbonation moderate to average. Bordering on excellent, it just needs to have the spice/pepper at back turned down a notch.

Bottled 29/3. A Laurel and Hardy themed beer for some reason. From Otter’s Promise. Amber with an inch of head that clears to white and laces nicely. Aroma is bristling with tropical fruit with barely ripe pineapple to the fore. Lychees, mango, oranges, some alcohol. And there’s a fair bit of unintegrated alcohol when you take a sip, too. Clean though and not all that sweet. Big fruity hops, some pine, bread crusts. Pretty strong bitterness. The heat says maybe I ought to have sat on this a week to give it a little time to settle, but it’s fun stuff.
