Tap at The Catfish, Melbourne. Poured almost black with little thin broken off white head. The aroma is roasty malt, light alcohol. The flavour is moderate liquorice bitter light sweet with a rich, oily, dry, floral liquorice, hop bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. More of a stout than a porter. Not too impressed with the hop combo that gave an unimpressive strange floral finish to the beer. Tasted much more alcoholic than advertised. Im really quite surprised at some of the high ratings on here recently.

Dark brown color. Massive dark fruit and plum, deep burnt raisins, fudge, rum soaked cake. Amazing nose. Full body, tons of dark fruit, plum, chocolate, rum so fucking amazing depth. Modest bitterness. A bit of sourness and dark fruit. Amazing.

Bottle, shared by bergstaden. An almost black one topped by a dense, finger-thick beige head. The aroma is sugary sweetish, with coffee and dark chocolate, mocha, dark dried fruits and some alcohol. It’s full-bodied and lightly warming on the palate, with a soft carbonation. Dark chocolate, mocha and some dark dried fruits in the flavor. Dark sugar and a little bitterness. Lasting roasted finish with chocolate and some coffee. 151010

Bottle bought in Brisbane, August 2014. Black with a small tan head. Nice aroma and taste of mainly chocolate, coffee, licorice and some milk. Thick body but with a smooth mouthfeel. A nice one to sip.

From a 330ml bottle on 12/8/2014. Pours not far off black with a medium tan head. Has a wonderful, powerful complex aroma featuring masses of toffee, caramel, molasses and stewed fruit. Take a sip and you get a huge treacle/golden syrup sweetness, along with more toffee and caramel, licorice and touch of milk chocolate and dark fruit. There’s quite a firm balancing bitterness which rounds things out beautifully. The palate is creamy and the carbonation is average to lively. Holy crap this is impressive - rich, complex and possibly the best porter I’ve ever had. A truly world class brew and a most delightful surprise.

Bottle, 13C (too cold). Almost black with a tan head that’s soon a coat but then lasts. Aroma of figs, mocha, molasses. Sweet mocha and treacle, figs and dark cherries, mocha, peppery at the moderately bitter finish. A lovely, enveloping beer.
