Tap at Slow Beer, Fitzroy, Melbourne. 2015 vintage @ 10.5%. Poured almost black with a broken light tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, liqourice, chocolate, molasses and alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet, liqourice bitter with a smooth rich oily, bourbon palate and some slight alcohol burn. Medium bodied with flat carbonation.

On tap at Beer DeLuxe Melbourne, pours jet black with a small creamy brown head. Aroma is complex as hell, with loads of complex whiskey notes, cocoa and roast - amazing aromatics. Flavour is supremely complex, with loads of dark fruits (raisins and prunes), complex whiskey barrels, a touch of cocoa, and light roast. The whiskey barrels are used to perfection, complementing the dark fruit quality wonderfully. One of the best Aussie beers out there. Phenomenal.

Bottle. Vintage 2013. Shared by bergstaden. Black in the glass, with a small, dense, dark beige head on top. Cellar, roasted malts, some whisky boozyness and a touch of dried fruits. It’s full-bodied, lightly warming and with a soft carbonation level. Too boozy on the palate I think, with lots of roasted malts, some barrel and chocolate and there’s also a touch of dried fruits. Everlasting finish. Sure a nice one, although a bit too much on the whiskey side. 151010
