Imperial Stout Brewed with Coffee

One of our most coveted Nietzschean narratives, Genealogy of Morals, inspires our bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout of the same name. We present to you the opportunity to enjoy the non barrel-aged base beer, simply named Genealogy, brewed with malted wheat and locally-roasted coffee, then conditioned in stainless steel. Dark, rich and smooth, its complex flavors belie the singular vision with which we create it—echoing the work that inspires it.This is the the non barrel-aged version of Genealogy of Morals, conditioned in stainless steel. Rust-brown head, medium, over deep brown-black beer. Stout, chili (?!?), earthy, quite a lot of coffee, peppery. Roasted/burnt taste, again peppery/chili, heat included. Very well-bodied, slick, viscous, rich MF. I really smell capsicainum - where does it come from??? Tsx to Mathieu and Louis!

500 ml bottle thanks to Heather on this share! Pitch black color with thin lasting white head. Amber yellow color, thin lasting head. Aroma is rich espresso bean, earthy. Molasses and dark sweet grain.

The espresso bean is dark, rich and earthy. Wheat base is here that gives a slight rye hint. The flavor has a huge amount of chocolate and cocoa nibs. Ok, cocoa nibs are not in this but huge chocolate notes. Fuller body with a creamy texture. Yeah, it’s good!

500ML bottle, kept in the fridge

A - Pitch black with reddish brown hues and a 1 finger coffee colored head.

S - Espresso bean and coffee aroma with fudge, a sharp acidic aroma from the coffee.

T - Fudge, burnt oak chips, espresso bean and chocolate covered coffee beans. Clean and juicy with a thick chocolate milk taste.

M - The mouthfeel is very creamy, dense, thick and long-lasting finish of chocolate cookies.

O - I love the mouthfeel and density of this without being too sweet. It’s really an exceptional stout.

Black color, with creamy brown head. Nice aroma of dark chocolate, with some roasted malt and ash; then also chili peppers and lifht liquorice. Strong body, round mouthfeel; very good dark chocolate flavor, with hints of chilli peppers and Garden plants; very smooth, chocolatey till the end, with moderate residual sweetness. Some tobacco, nice. Pure chocolate pleasure.
Fascinating. A wonderful beer.

Black color, with brown head, persistent. Aroma of roasted malt, pot coffee, light pepper. Too high carbonation, that provides some smoothness, but overall spoils the mouthfeel; good dark chocolate flavor, enough sweetness to make it pleasant, it has a mild spicy and sour character, a touch of liquorice and coffee, and a pungent final. Good, but not cohesive.

(Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen, 18 Feb 2012) Black colour with frothy, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with black coffee, milky chocolate aromas and a touch of oak wood. Malty, roasted taste with lots of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, hints of oak wood and a generous cocoa bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a dense, rounded mouthfeel. A touch of sweetness shines through. Lovely beer with generous amounts of chocolate and coffee.
