Handpull cask at the Brunswick, Leicester. Slightly reddish brown and clear with a scummy beige head. Aroma is muted with some caramel and sweet spice notes. Taste is spicy sweet in the very first instance with intense bitterness drowning out everything else. Some tea-y fruit mid-sip. Bitter hop sitting on the tongue well after the finish. Soft carbonation lifting a light body. Not Oakham's best but decent.

Cask at Borough Arms, Crewe. Pours ruby brown with a small foamy cream head and excellent lacing. The aroma has tropical fruits and rye. In the mouth it is very much a beer of two halves. Up top it is light and fruity tropical fruits, citrus and hints of lemon. Underneath it is quite bitter with plenty of rye grains and some spices. And never the twin shall meet. Even the finish is split between bitter and fruity. Overall it’s reasonable.
