Coffee. Chocolate. Caramel. Vanilla. You’re used to seeing a lot of these terms when describing stouts. These are not just descriptors; they are ingredients. “Java,” as we call it, has become a crowd favorite by perfectly balancing the sweet and the roast, thanks to the use of Creme Brule coffee. The aroma and flavor are a coffee, chocolate or dessert-lover’s dream in a glass

Draft - Toffee, coffee and dark chocolate. Jet black with a rich light brown head. Dark chocolate, coffee and a sweet roasty finish. Nice.

Smells like java. Good sense of Indonesia here though it doesn’t quite remind me of Bintang. Bitter, good consistency. some lacing. This undetailed rating another victim of a late night drinking session. Tap at Hopcat.

Courtesy of 15_2_Kuhnhenn. 12oz bottle pours dark mahogany with thin mocha head. The aroma forces up a foray of bold rich coffee notes, spicy maple syrup, brown sugar and baker’s chocolate. The taste is skewed from the aroma as I get a thin mouth feel ushering in sharp pulses of tartness like under ripe cherries and tart chalky baker’s chocolate as well as earthy dark roasted coffee and more chocolate murmuring up around the edges. It ends thin with sweet and tart cherry fruitiness coming forward. It seems something here has soured a bit but I didn’t get that in the nose only the flavor.

Bottle. A tale of two beers. Visually stunning black with brown head. Nose nails creme brulee almost perfectly - toasted vanilla, cocoa powder, coffee and creme brulee. Taste is a bit of a disappointment. Weakish body. Taste is burnt caramel, roasted chocolate malts, cocoa butter and vanilla extract.

Draught. Distinct Nesquick aroma. Black colour. Small brown head. Distinct light chocolate flavour to start with, turning to coffee and back to chocolate again. A different sort of chocolate flavour in beer, but very good.

Draught at HopCat, RBSG. Big coffee and crème brulee nose. Rich, light body, again with crème brulee and coffee, as well as wood. Tasty and rather light, with a somewhat thin body. Enjoyable.

Served on draft at Hopcat in Grand Rapids. Shared by someone.... thanks. Pours a dark brown color, appearing black in the glass. Not much of a head but it shows some decent lacing. Big chocolate, mocha aroma with caramel and rich coffee notes. The taste is dry, bitter coffee notes, caramel and faint fruity notes. Full bodied.

Dec 2009 12 oz bottle from msante79. Nose reeks of roasty coffee when first opened, then the creeme brulee kicks in along with light chocolate. Smells very good. Black, watery appearance with a few bubbles around the side. Hoping for better luck than the regular creme brulee from a couple years ago but this was infected.
