330 ml bottle, as Lervig 3 Bean Stout - nothing is mentioned on the label about this being a collab brew. ABV is 13%. At Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pitch black colour, minimal brown head. Perfumed aroma, notes of tonka beans dominate entirely. Rich and roasty medium sweet flavour, unfortunately again dominated by tonka beans. Would be a much better beer without the tonka beans.

Sampled at ACBF 2017. Thnx for sharing, everyone ! Pours black, small grey head. Smell is sweet, herbal, dark malts. Taste is sweet, toiler-cleaner like herbal spices. To damn perfumy, I don’t seem to like this - just like I didn’t enjoy the BA version. But just like the BA version, many raved aboout this. It must be my taste, than.

33 cl bottle @ home, BBE 26.06.2025
Aroma is rather nice with chocolate and cardamom. Flavour has cardamom, chocolate, coffee and licorice. Some mildly disturbing alcohol also. Quite delicious.

At ACBF. Brownish beige head, disappearing in the middle but leaving a dense moussy rim on the edge, jet black colour. Enticing bouquet in which the tonka beans lay a perfumey layer of cinnamon-, marzipan- and clove-like aromas on top of a deep world of fondant chocolate (obviously intensified and made more expressive thanks to the cocoa beans), hazelnut oil, toasted coconut, ’speculoos’ and candied dates. Pungent sweet onset, candied figs, immediate tonka bean effects of almond and hazelnut paste but nothing cloying, thin rim of dried meat-like umami adding complexity, soft carbo, slick and full, viscous mouthfeel; lots of chocolatey flavors, both from chocolate malt and cocoa, on top of a big nutty and toffeeish malt body, coconut touch in the finish with a lot of warming, rum-like but non-astringent alcohol. I was stunned by this one, I must have underestimated this brewery, this was one of the great revelations of the festival to me. Bordering on perfect, at least if you like big, sweet, complex imperial stouts.

Nose is cacao & more tonka bean than imaginable, mocha, candy, sweet & more tonka, its hilarious and awesome. Taste is cacao, cinnamon, sugar, molasses, candy, sweet chocolate & of course, lots & lots & lots of tonka beans. Its equally hilarious & awesome. Body is pure tonka & cacao syrup.

Bottle from Oxford University Club. Black. Oily. Scary. Coffee aroma with booze and tarragon. Tastes of salted caramel, molasses, cinnamon, a bit of blood. Long savoury and salty finish. Thick and viscous body. My God this is heavenly.
