8 Wired’s interpretation of a New Zealand hopped pale ale can best be described as Tropidelic! With plenty of exotic fruit flavours from three Kiwi (one one Aussie) hops, it’s an island orchard of fresh fruit salad but with the characteristic 8 Wired touch of balance.

Bottle at Hair of the Dog, Phloen Chit, Bangkok. Poured a clear light amber with a bubbly broken white head. The aroma is light hop, light veggie mineral. The flavour is moderate bitter with a zesty citrus, grassy hop, yeast palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Not such a great nose but somewhat fruity and refreshing in the palate.

Bottle. Gold with an inch of white head. Yes, a tropical aroma but not full of overripe or cloying fruit - ripe and green mango, pineapple, peach, makrut lime, mandarins. The fruity hops are really nicely done but there’s a big hole where the beer should be. Enough bitterness, I guess.

On tap at Brewers Cooperative. Aroma is super tropical, with mango, papaya and orange. Flavour is big with plenty of the same tropical fruit without much bitterness and a very refreshing palate. If desert island beers was a thing, then this would have to be on the list.

Tap at Roundhouse. Clear dull golden-orange pour with very little carbonation. Uh oh. Tropical fruit aroma as promised - nice. Taste is muddled but quite fruity hops. Some mild but persistent bitterness. Musty malts. Not that great.
