A burly export stout loaded with our bourbon barrel-aged coffee beans. We’ve had great success with Black House & Monsters’ Park dosed with barrel-aged coffee, but we wanted to design a beer from scratch specifically to feature these beans. Full-bodied and a touch sweet, City of the Dead will be explosively aromatic and saturated with barrel-aged coffee character.

On tap. Pours black with moderate head. Aromas of dark fruit, dark sugar, wood and toasted malts. Flavors of woody liquor, wet malts, and stale coffee with some vegetal notes (which I don’t think should be there...). Maybe not the best sample... Need to try again.

On tap at BierCraft UBC, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out espresso beans, light bourbon and a little harsh booze. Flavour is complex as hell, with loads of bourbon, vanilla beans and espresso beans. Complex, despite being medium-bodied. Fantastic.

Keg at BD Mighty Boosh, 09/06/16. Pitch black with a well appointed tan head that retains well. Nose is coffee grinds, chocolate, light roast, toffee fudge. Taste comprises chocolate brownies, earthy coffee, light spice, charr, brown sugar, molasses. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid stout ... great coffee bean presence ... Top draw.

Draught at CBC 2016, Green session. Devil black body. Clingy lacing, low tan-coloured head. Nose is coffee, nicely roasted. Mixed taste of coffee and cocoa powder, some impact of chocolate and oak. Long lived roasted malty bitterness to the end. Medium bodied. Likable (Copenhagen 14.05.2016).
