In Extremis is a powerful Belgian quadrupel that has matured for three years in American and French red wine barrels. The barrels add a slightly spicy and fruity touch of cranberry, blackberry and licorice.

330 ml bottle at an outrageous price, from Vinmonopolet Sandnes Kvadrat, also available at Nettbutikken. ABV is 18%, IBU 30. Black colour, small tan head. Aroma of fusel alcohols, oak, coffee and dark berries. Fairly good flavour with the same elements, but less fusel, and fairly distinct notes of liquorice.

Bottle #2012/3200. A dark brown beer, a head is small and light brown. Aroma has dried fruits, raisin, prune,grapes, alcohol is nicely hidden. Taste has ried fruits, raisin, sweetness, barrel. Full bodied, warming. Good, but maybe I expected more.

Mørk brun med noe beige skum. Lukter mørk sjokolade, lakris, rødvin og trevirke. Fyldig. Smaker alkohol, svisker, mørk sjokolade, fat og lakris. Lang.

170ml draught at Ølhallen. Shared with Finn. Bare naked surface, poor lacing, deep black body. Quite intense aromas of oak, dark berries and roasted malts, warming alcohol to it. Powerful taste with oak, black chocolate, liquorice, and dark berries. Lingering dry, roasted ending, warming down the swallow. Sipper qualities, indeed. (In friendly company with NilsAS and Finn, Tromsø 29.07.2025).
