Packed with a powerful hop punch, this Golden IPA features a strong citrus, floral and tropical fruit flavour with a satisfying bitter finish.

Brewed with primarily pale malt, we added a dash of Munich to stiffen the backbone of this beer. Hopped with Summit, Centennial, Cascade and Citra, we boosted the flavour by dry hopping Cascade and Citra to finish it off.

Bottle at home, 14/05/16. Hazed golden orange with a decent off white covering. Nose is orange peel, citric tinged straw, light toasted malt, tangerine. Taste comprises orange pith, mellow tropical fruit esters, soft bread, light mineral exhaust. Medium boided, a touch thin and watery, overall drinkable but lower end for the style.

Small white head. Hazy opaque orange body. Fruity plastic aroma. Dryish citric tea taste with mealy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish funky orangey aftertaste with mealy notes. Unusual, but not a winner. (0.33l bottle, from a Clerkenwell shop.)

330ml bottle from Hippo Beers. Orangey amber colour, creamy white foam head leaving lots of lacing and aroma of spicy citrus, hop, yeasty. Taste is grain, malt, some tangy citrus, grapefruit, with hay, earthy and grassy bitterness. Light to medium bodied, soft to medium carbonation, dry lingering grassy dusty bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

On cask at Ravensgate Arms Ramsgate. Diacetyl aroma. Hazy amber colour. Some decent pink grapefruit kicks in. But it’s just a bit empty and not very well made.

Tasted in the 5% ABV version. Cornish (litterally) IPA with thin, irregular, snow white head retaining around the edges of the glass but quickly losing volume in the middle, over a hazy light orange blonde robe. ’Dank’ but not too complex aroma of blood orange, pine wood, pink grapefruit flesh, honey, mango, toasted bread, bitter herbs. Taste begins with restrained but still quite vivid fruitiness, dried apricot, red apple, sourish touch, relatively soft carbo for the style, minerals, citrussy freshness, with an equally citrussy hop bitterness already present in an early stage and gaining strength towards the finish, supported by a light, toasted and slightly nutty malt body, which actually feels a bit thin for a 5% ABV beer; finish is aromatically and bitterly hoppy, dry, resinous, subtly piney and subtly citrussy, long, with a peppery ’sting’ to it without becoming as abrasive as many American equivalents of our day and age; a minerally flavour and a very lightly malty taste linger as well. In all: a pretty straightforward, quenching, ’simple’ but flawless IPA, enjoyable on a hot day and hoppy enough to qualify for the ’American’ substyle of the genre.
