A golden haze for a summer’s daze. Elder Betty is a weiss-style ale with a bready malt flavor balanced by a touch of hops and complimented by the tart berry flavors of elderberry.

Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear straw colour with a round bubbly white head. The aroma is yeast, rye, light banana. The flavour is neutral veggie with a caramel toffee malt, light zesty red-berry fruit palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Not too bad at all I have to say. I’m not a fan of the style but quite enjoyed this.

Some light elderberry which is well integrated but doesn’t necessarily make this a better beer. Pours cloudy golden with good head and lacing. Light acrid cellar taste to it that is ok. Light sweet finish. On tap at DC Summerfest.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 5/7/14

Aroma: Sweet, with berry over most everything else, and some underlying wheat/bread
Appearance: It pours a clear golden color with an off-white head and light lacing
Flavor: The flavor is sweet with lots of berry flavor, bread, and a mild hop bitterness
Palate: The body is light, but not watery, with a lively carbonation, and a mild stickiness
Overall Impression: I can't say as though this is something I would buy or drink too often. It's pretty sweet (didn't get much of the tart that was described), and it lacks any kind of balancing bite. It is also a little too carbonated to be considered super drinkable. Ultimately, it isn't a particularly flawed beer, but it just isn't that good of a beer either.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance had a hazy brown colored body with a fizzy soft white head that dies within twenty seconds. No lacing was left and very little carbonation was seen rising.
The smell had some orange, grape and cherry. All three of these were pretty distinct from each other - not really taking any sort of blend.
The taste had orange, grape and cherry, not much else, maybe a bit of honey, but wasn’t exactly combined right, something just didnt quite right taste right?
The palate sat light and the carbonation was definitely felt, a bit harsh on the tongue.
Overall, well, I’m glad I only got a single of this just to try and I don’t think I’ll get this again.

Purchased at Evolution Liquors in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a nice hot summer Sunday, great way to enjoy this one. Appearance is a cloudy maroon gold with a thin white head that is bubbly. Aroma is of tart berries, light sweetness, not much more. Taste goes down tart and leaves a sour taste, definitely fruity with a dry finish. Overall it’s good for the season but not much else.

Bottle. Hazy yellow color, foamy white head, honey-orange aroma, orange peel flavor, slightly bitter taste, fizzy, long finish. Interesting for a wheat ale, very fruity.

Trader Joe’s, Union Square 12oz ($2): Pours a hazy orange without much head. Aroma is pretty powerfully of berries and generic wheat ale. Taste is slightly tart, but then the tartness expires into a cardboard finish. This beer does what it has to do, but not a bit more.

Refrigered 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a weizen glass. Pours hazy deep golden with small white head which dissapates quickly, and little lacing. Medium/light body, medium/light body, medium/light carbonation, smooth texture, and light wheat aroma. Taste is fairly rich clove, some sweet banana, and a hint of elderberry. Good, fairly simple, easy drinking beer. It is a hefeweizen with a hint of elderberry.

Hazy orange-gold color with a medium white head that evaporates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of berries and malt. Light body with a mildly tart berry character that I can only assume is elderberry. Some sweet malt and a touch of hops in the background. The finish is short with a fruity aftertaste. Okay for what it is.
