Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours a dark brown with a medium sized foamy off0white head and good lacing. Malt and nuts can be found in the aroma – but not to any great extent. In the mouth, it starts of bitter and hoppy but quickly calms down to sweet and malty. Some spices do appear eventually plus hints of treacle, but the whole affair is somewhat watery. This is just a standard bitter with a few spices thrown in – but reasonable for all that.

On tap at the Horse and jockey. Waddington. A bearish colour with a white head. A dull and unintesting beer with a touch of spice.

Cask at The White Swan, Solihull. Poured a clear medium amber with a frothy long-lasting white head and plenty of broken lace. The aroma is malty and a little hop. The flavour is medium bitter with a creamy dry malt, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with flat carbonation. Nice and drinkable but not a lot going on and quite uninspiring. Not what I would expect in a Christmas beer. Where is the fruit? Killed by the malt I guess :-)
