Since June of 2012, Sankt Hans has been a recurring member of our Farmstead® ale family. The wine barrel-aged version of this amber Farmstead® ale has been a contributing factor to some of our favorite blends in the Civil Disobedience series. For the first time, we have selected the most singular of these barrels in order for the beer to be tasted outside of the brewery.
Brewed and placed into barrels in the autumn of 2019, we selected wine barrels that had previously been home to Flora, Dorothy, and Art, amongst others. After fifteen months in wood, a refined, uniquely expressive version of Sankt Hans emerged. Benefiting from more than two years of bottle conditioning, we hope that you might enjoy one of our favorite blending beers.

2019 375mL bottle drunk 10/16/24. Clear, copper-amber. Off-white head shows moderate retention. Delicate and fruity nose shows healthy, yet restrained, or easygoing red wine-like fruitiness. No big acidity, chalk, tannin. Lightly toasted bread up front giving way to house culture/mineral, round fruitiness and lingering gentle wine. Mild wood, again, no big tannin. Soft, yet tightly carbonated with mild toast, almost not even there. Round, vibrant fruits and gentle, fruity red wine balance with the ample, yet well-attenuated malts. Lingering tart Brett, minimal lactic, no acetic. Just a study in delicate, flawlessly-executed brewing and barrel-aging.
