The premium dark lager has complemented Budweiser Budvar Brewery’s traditional product range. It is brewed in the same way as the premium pale lager, using first-class Saaz hops, Moravian malt, water drawn from 300-metre deep artesian wells and three types of special colour malted barley: Munich, caramel and roasted.

The beer is characterised by a distinctly dark colour, a dry and mildly bitter caramel flavour without any dominant sweetness and a delicious aroma of roasted malt.

Keg at Rutland and Derby Arms, Leicester. Dark brown, opaque with an uneven beige head and a lot of lacing. The aroma suggests that it may not be in optimum condition: among the dark malts typical of the style there's a metallic and vegetal, almost cressy note. Tastes ok though: sweet and malty with notes of Ovaltine and milk chocolate. Heavily carbonated. A good beer even if tbis particular specimen may be getting on a bit.

Creamy tan head on a black still body. Malt aroma. Medium bodied, sharp on the palate with a clean back. Bitter tangy tastes of berry, malt & spice

Bottle at Bill's Woking. Burnt caramel aroma with some boiled veg. Dark - cola-esque. Thin creamy off-white head. Medium bitter with a tang. Malty. Coffee. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Low key fizzy carbonation. Dry finish. Tasty enough. Enjoyable.

Bought it in the Trink Gut in Nordhorn for only € 0,70 a bottle, named Budvar Premium Dark Lager. Dark brown color, creamy head. Roasted malt and grass in the aroma. Coffee, roast, apple and a grassy hopbitterness in the flavor. Also caramel. Thinnish, but certainly has complexity. Very well made dunkel.
