Stemware at Toronado, September 2024. Dark, shiny, waiting. Boozy barrel dominant. Raisin & oily chocolate cake nose. Bittersharp, but plenty sweet. Lots of toasted coconut & dark chocolate, dense & oxidized malt turned toffee. Middle is vinous, dark & quite good. Tasty.

Pours deep mahogany into a tulip. Mocha head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Date, fig and molasses aromas. Thin and sweet with warm fig, date and molasses front to back. Pretty one dimensional, but OK on that dimension.

Bottle from Harvest Market dated 2019 Solid dark brown in color with a bubbly tan head that slowly recedes. Fruity caramel and toffee aroma and flavor countered by light earthy hops and a bit of warming alcohol. Seems like there's barely enough hops to counter the malt sweetness. Lingering alcohol presence with a sweet maltiness.

Draft at the brewery. A deep mahogany/ brown color. Aroma is nice ... Rich toffee malt, sugar covered dates, and light hops. Considering how young of a Barley Wine this is... (I drink them aged) , it is very smooth. The hops do well to balance out the huge malt bill. The malt flavors are layered. The most positive item is that the alcohol is covered really well and it only shows a slight warming after the finish. I am happy they brewed this again since I missed it a few years back when they brewed it for Portsmouth Beer Week!
