Thanks Luigi, a present for my birthday of 2019. Sharing this bottle with my wife, at home, yesterday, after the job. A classical Belgian ale, malty, a bit boozy, bread, little side of sugar and toffee, final of hop. 30.01.2021

An 'ambrée' (as there are still many around in Wallonia) by Abbaye d'Aulne, created for the 350th birthday of the city of Charleroi (along with Belgian chocolates under the same brand name). Thick and very moussy, off-white, cobweb-lacing, stable head on an initially crystal clear, deep copper-hued amber beer, misty and deeper bronze with sediment. Aroma a bit oxidized at first (rusty iron), but opening up to reveal old walnuts, hard caramel, actually added iron (as confirmed by the 'hand test'!), dried thyme and other 'herbes de Provençe', peanut, old rusk, dried apricot. Spritzy onset, lots of minerally carbonation, restrained 'dried' fruitiness of apricot and banana peel, smooth peanutty and hard-caramelly maltiness with a clear metallic edge. Thyme- and clove-like spicy notes in the finish, along with a notably herbal hoppiness providing moderate bitterness; the overall herbal effect reminds of dried 'herbes de Provençe' so I suspect thyme has actually been used here. Typical Walloon 'ambrée' indeed, but the iron effect (probably head stabilizer) remained a bit bothersome - fortunately it was not too outspoken compared with some other iron-containing beers I had before.

Draft @ Cuve à Bière, Charleroi. Hazy golden colour, white foam. Dirty soapy smell, dusty and weird. Taste of caramel, malty, light sweet. Nothing special.
