Our Trippel has always been a big, beautiful Belgian-style ale, but in 2015, we tweaked the recipe to include a new yeast variety and even more complex malt profile. This golden beer opens with a bold blast of spicy Noble hops, courtesy of Saaz and Hallertau Mittlefruh, and gives way to the fruity aromas offered by our traditional Belgian yeast. Brewed with Pilsner and Munich malts, Trippel is classically smooth and complex, and sings with a high-note of sweet citrus before a pleasantly dry finish delivers a warm, strong boozy bite. (Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a slightly hazy pilsener golden with a creamy, off-white head leaving a discreet lacework. Distinct aroma of yeast and some fruit - perhaps even a dash of coriander. Rather full-bodied with accents of yeast and sulphur - and perhaps a banana note. Some alcohol presence showing in the finish. Thanks to PhillyBeer2112 for providing this. 060706

I am not very familiar with this brewer as they are not available in my state, fortunately my wife was able to bring me a couple of bottles from a trip out west. I love Abby Tripels in general so I was excited to try this one. Sampled from an attractive 12 oz bottle this beer poured a cloudy bright golden color with a huge yellow-white head that lingers for quite some time and leaves lots of lacing. The aroma is sweet with a strong yeasty presence and a hint of pear. The flavor is sweet and fruity with pear and apricot elements undertoned with a yeasty presence. The finish is tangy and fruity. I wish I could get some more of this one.

(Been years since I’ve had this beer - used to be a big fan - now, not so much )Cloudy golden pour with minimal head - musty aroma with touches of apples and pears - high carbonation is surprisingly soft on the palate - quite floral, but not what you would consider hoppy - spices, apples, vanilla - medium dry finish - very nice - thanks to Crosling for this one.

2004 bottle. Pours a very mildly hazy, yellow, some very light orange tints. Small white head, fairly rapidly dissipating, with slight lacing. At first I thought this was just as filtered as their other beers, but then read that there is a yeast injection. Whatever, it’s still filtered. Aroma is light honeydew melon, lemons, sponge cake, mild belgian yeast, vanilla. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly yeasty and has a bit more citrus and hop bite to it than expected. But overall, it is still quite tame and mild. Little bit of thinning on the very end. Some esters, but they are very muted. Body is pretty smooth with a bit of alcohol giving it a fuzzy palate. Moderate carbonation, medium body. I enjoy trippels with more aggressive yeast and less filtration.

Bottle: Poured an hazy golden yellow colored beer with medium head and above standard retention. Aroma is quite sweet with some subtle spice also perceptible. Taste is a bit too sweet with too much candi sugar, which ends up covering most of the wheat. Spices are good but too subtle and again probably covered by the candi sugar. Carbonation is a bit low but body is above average. Alcohol is not discernable which is a great plus at 8%. Overall, there is too much candi sugar for my liking in this one.

Bottle Pours a common looking slightly hazy, light amber. A modest fizzy that dissapated after a moment leaving a little lacing. Aroma is swet, fruity, a bit of spice. Busy. Flavor is a medley of tastes. Cloves, floral, a bit sweet, a little malty and hops. The after taste is slightly darker and woody. Finish is smooth a heavy. In a good way. Abbey Tripels are a good thing.

Pours with a fairly clear orange body and a minimal off-white head. Aroma of bananas, clove, citrus, white grape, and sugar. Flavor is very tart and sweet, peppery and spicy, with notes of citrus and banana. Rather earthy finish. Solid, though I’d prefer the clove and pepper be toned down.
