Chardonnay Barrel Fermented Rustic Danish Saison. A grist consisting of barley, oats, spelt and rye was fermented with Mikkeller Baghaven house blend of saison yeast and native yeast and bacteria, then aged in Chardonnay barrels for 12 months. Refsæsøen was naturally conditioned in green 75 cL bottles for 7 months prior to release.

Bottle shared at the pre-Borefts tasting 2019, Zaandam. Poured a hazy golden orange colour with a bubbly round white head. The aroma is yeasty, pineapple citrus fruit, light vanilla. The flavour is moderate sour, with a crisp, fresh, yeasty, tart citrus, light lactose vanilla palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Bottle. Hazy golden color with white head. Aroma is peach, apricot, wood, yoghurt. Taste is the same. Silky mouthfeel with medium carbonation.

Bottle shared at Pre-Borefts ‘19. Fairly hazy golden with a ring off white head. Aroma of dry cellar funk, cobwebs, dust, green apples and light woody notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and sour. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Sampled at pre-Borefts tasting. Hazy golden with small white head. Tart gooseberries, light glue, soft funk, white grapes, white, sharp white wine vinegar, soft spices. Over medium sour, light sweet and bitter. Medium bodied.

ABV: 7.4%. Cloudy medium yellow colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, wheat, moderate yeast, barnyard, leather, tart, funk, oak, grapes - white wine. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate acdic with a long duration, funky, leather - farmyard, fruity - stone fruit, grapes - white wine, oak, light peach - fruity. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20190926]

On tap at Mikkeller Baghaven. Hazy yellow with a small head. Sour with citrus, oak, grapes and funk. Refreshing and nicely drinkable.
