Fortunate Islands combines the bangin' hop aroma of an über-tropical IPA with the crisp, deeply quenching drinkability of a killer pale ale. We achieve this magical result by starting with a mild, nutty malt backbone, then dry-hopping the bejesus out of it with Citra and Amarillo hops. Restrained bitterness and vibrant notes of mango, tangerine, and passionfruit combine to form a sessionable crusher of mind-bending proportions. It tastes like wizards.

[2/21/15] Draught at Modern Times Flavordome in San Diego. Clear gold. Nice hoppy aroma of overripe tropical fruits. Great flavor full of tropical fruity hops, quite juicy. Light to medium-bodied. Very nice.

Pour is a bright golden with a average white head. Aroma is a zesty hop. Not much of the wheat but plenty of hops. Flavor is a lesser hop but more of the wheat malt makes an appearance. Finish is a bit watery but still a bit citrusy. Decent beer with a great aroma.

Pours a clear pale orange-gold color with a medium thick foamy white head that diminishes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of tropical fruit, hops and wheat. Light-bodied with a melon and citrus character, along with notes of herbal wheat and hops. The finish is mildly bitter with a lingering tropical fruit and hops aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Tap at Mikkeller Bangkok. Poured a hazy medium amber with a thin broken white head and a little lace. The aroma is wheat, yeasty citrus hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a big spicy Citra hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Mediun bodied with average carbonation.

Can. Hazy orange liquid with medium off-white. Aroma of mango, pine, pineapple, wheat, light grain and fresh hops. Taste is dry and light bitter with notes of mango, earthy wheat and grapefruit. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Great hop profile.

Poured up on tap at the Neighborhood where it exhibits an opaque dirty copper body that has thick murky gold edges and supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up soft wheat and then floral and earthy hops just ahead of a thin ribbon of grassiness. The taste is a hop heavy mix of wheated malts, pine hops, some wheat smoothness and then a faint banana note. It gets a bit juicy with grapefruit hops here and there. Not sure this comes across as a wheat but rather an IPA and the 4.8% ABV doesn’t seem right either.

This was poured into a pint glass.
It started off with a one finger white foamy head that quickly dissipated. Some light clingy lacing stuck here and there.
The smell had a whole lot of juicy tropical fruit with a solid bitter citrus invading and going nuts on my nose. Also, there’s a nice floral presence over a light wheat malt.
The taste was mainly all about the juicy tropical fruit coming through sweetly. There’s just a tad more wheat in the flavor than the nose.
On the palate, this one sat fairly light and sessionable. There’s not much of a wheat kick and that could be due to the need to keep less to balance to the ~5% aspect. No worries as this is a definitely a well deserved session beer.
Overall, wow, really nice American Pale Wheat Ale that I would definitely welcome again.

1 pint can. The beer is light amber. Slightly cloudy. Solid white head. Lots of lacing, good retention. The aroma is tropical fruit and citrus. I’m getting tangerine, pineapple, mango, passionfruit (the official description is pretty good), lemon, balckberry. Somewhat floral. Some wheat breadiness but the hops cover most of it. Hops are bright and fresh in the taste. Solid tropical citrus zing. Tons of flavor for a ~5% beer. Very easy to put down. The wheat gives it a light spiciness, some breadiness and a round gentle body. Normal carbonation. Light bitterness. Wheaty finish. Not quite as punchy as some beers in this sphere, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this beer was far better right out of a fresh keg. Still, I could happily put away a a four pack of these tallboys. Good stuff.

Can from CBB. Lovely wheat and citrus nose, plus mango, peach, oranges. Cloudy, dark gold, a bit muddy. Rich wheat malts and great fruity hops. biscuits, mango, mikan, peaches. Rather weighty malts but not overly sweet or heavy. Super drinkable. A pretty great beer.
