A refreshing sonnet to modern brewing methods, where novel hop products sing harmoniously in tune with the use of premium German malt. Lagered slow and with the utmost care, Novella features Riwaka Amplifire hop oil from New Zealand for a Southern Hemiphere burst of flavour. Delve into aromas of white grape and citrus zest with layered flavours of bright tropical fruit. Light bodied with a snappy finish, Novella is your new ‘happily ever after’ lager for a hop-forward refreshment without all the bitterness. The end.

473ml can. Pours a clear yellow gold with a medium, frothy, long lasting, white head that leaves thick, soapy curtains of lace. Aroma of toasted bready pale malt, grapefruit and herbal hops. Sweet fruity flavour of toasted grainy pale malt, grapefruit, lime, passionfruit and grassy hops in a dry, mild bitter finish. Light body with a watery texture and average carbonation. Refreshing and easy to put back.

On tap at Luppolo, pours a clear blonde with a medium white head. Aroma has some unfermented wort, moderate bitterness, and crunchy herbal notes — not getting any NZ hops. Flavour is dry and somewhat soapy, with moderate bitterness without any real hop flavour, and a crunchy, herbal finish. Not digging the hops here, and I find little else to appreciate. Not bad but not one of Luppolo’s better lagers.

On tap at Luppolo. Pours clear blonde with a white head. Dry grass and cracker malts on the nose, a bit soapy. Flavour has straw, dry grass, pale malts; a bit soapy. Nice dry finish. Crisp, but thin and soapy. Not great.
